Mrs. Munk grew up in Bnei Brak where the resilience of her parents (Holocaust survivors), the strong and pure religiosity of her community, and her excellent academic education nurtured a positive and energetic approach to life’s challenges.

Mrs. Munk continued her post high school education at Michlala College (special ed. Certificate), Bar Ilan University(B.A. education), and Orot Seminary for Teachers (Teaching License) and taught in Tel Aviv schools for the developmentally disabled in the beginning of her teaching career.

Several years after her marriage she moved to the United States with her husband and taught Hebrew Language and Judaic Studies for eight years at the Bruriah High School in Elizabeth New Jersey, where she quickly became widely known as an expert in Hebrew grammar. Teachers from many other schools came to learn from her special techniques for Hebrew immersion learning. She is comfortable teaching all levels of Hebrew, from basic skills to advanced-level literature. Moreover, she is attuned to the emotional world of her students and is focused on, and impactful in, facilitating their growth in Jewish spirituality and cognitive maturity.

Mrs. Munk was recruited to help establish the first Jewish High School in Edmonton Alberta, and after moving there she wrote the first Provincially-approved Hebrew language curriculum which is still utilized today and is a model for other Canadian provinces.

After her time in Edmonton, Mrs Munk moved to St. Louis to serve as the head of the Hebrew Language Department at the Block Yeshiva High School. She finally found her true home at Shulamith High School, where she takes advantage of her diverse background experience to teach a full course of Hebrew courses and serve as the Israel Guidance counselor. Additionally, her passion project is the Israel club, an activism based club, which has kept very busy in the last couple of years. And finally, in her free time, she manages to feed her other passion of walking by leading a power walking class.

It is an honor to recognize Mrs. Munk and the unique and central role she has played at Shulamith High School since its inception, as we celebrate Shulamith High School’s tenth anniversary at our Annual Dinner.
